Not so sure about King...
John Banville (Benjamin Black), Simenon, Kate Atkinson ... I wish there were more of them!
May I ask why? I don't read his stuff but I thought I'd be game and throw one in for you.
A really great 'mystery' is THE SHADOW OF THE WIND by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Yes I will plug this brilliant book till the end of time. It's one of the best I've read in a long time. This is crazy because I have a hard time getting into crime novels.
I don't think he's a mystery writer...
Orhan Pamuk.
This guy has excellent taste.
I'd add John Connolly also.
